About the Thomas Bunn House B&B

entrance to B&B

The moment you drive up our tree-sheltered lane toward the quiet banks of the Red River, you’ll feel the shift: your shoulders soften and your breathing deepens as the busyness of everyday life begins to fade. It’s hard to believe you’re only 45 minutes from downtown Winnipeg!

At the Thomas Bunn House Bed and Breakfast, our mission is simple: we believe in providing good old-fashioned hospitality to our valued guests.

Set in the natural beauty of St. Clements, Manitoba, our B&B invites you to slow down and reconnect with local history, nature and each other. It means the world to us to welcome friends from near and far, and we promise to do our best to give you a memorable experience during your stay!

Your home away from home

During your stay, you’ll have the entire house to yourself for a private space to relax and unwind.

While the house proudly carries its original character and historic charm, it’s also equipped with modern technology and contemporary comforts. It gives you the best of both worlds: a unique heritage setting with everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Features include:

Manitoba heritage room kitchen.
  • Parlour
  • Three bedrooms
  • Bathroom with large tub and shower
  • Fully equipped kitchen with antique flair
  • Spacious two-season porch, perfect for morning coffee
  • Heritage artifacts displayed throughout the home and outdoors (don’t miss the antique phone for a delightful surprise!)
  • Heritage library on local Manitoba history
  • Other amenities like Smart TV, billiard table and outdoor firepit

We’ve also reimagined the traditional B&B experience. Instead of set breakfast hours, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen stocked with breakfast essentials, ready for you to enjoy at your convenience.

Area activities

Whatever the reason for your visit, you’ll find plenty to enjoy at Thomas Bunn House B&B, along with a range of local activities in the Selkirk area.

Fishing

Two men fish on the Red River near Selkirk, Manitoba.

Located on the banks of the Red River, we offer direct dock access in the summer, with boat launch facilities nearby.

For guests looking to make the most of their experience on the water, we’re happy to share information on local outfitters offering guided fishing trips, along with details on where to purchase fishing licences, bait and other essentials.

Heritage

Our historic home dates back to 1862 and was first owned by Thomas Bunn, a member of Louis Riel’s council.

Explore the fascinating story behind the house and its place in Selkirk and Métis history.

You can also discover the Red River North’s rich history and culture with complimentary local heritage trip guides available during your stay. The Heritage Treasure publication showcases many notable historic sites, and we can provide information on local festivals and events happening throughout the year.

Local trails

Walking trail at Manitoba heritage site.

Stroll our 4.5-km walking trail, which winds through former pastures and crosses a creek along the way. Look closely and you may spot wildlife, like the deer who often roam our property.

We can also share information on hiking, cycling and snowmobile trails, as well as canoeing and watercraft locations.

Meet your hosts

Bev and Fraser Stewart, hosts of Thomas Bunn House B&B.

Hi, we’re Bev and Fraser!

We live just down the lane and are always available if you need anything or just feel like a chat.

Bev is a retired nurse with a passion for baking. She enjoys meeting new people and in the summer, you’ll often find her tending her garden.

Fraser is a retired agriculture specialist who loves heritage. He currently volunteers with the St. Clements Heritage Committee to share his passion for history with the community.

We have six beautiful grandchildren, and, after more than 60 years of marriage, we are always excited to have someone new to talk to!

We can’t wait to welcome you to the Thomas Bunn House B&B!
